Packing for the Philippines – Hot Weather Clothing

A week from today we will be jet-setting off to the tropical land of the Philippines to visit my family! Being the planner that I am, I already sorted out all the hot weather clothing that I plan on taking with me. As I shared in my previous post discussing my search for the perfect weekender bags for women, I am about to embark on the mission of traveling with carry-on bags only! On that note, today I’ll be sharing what I am packing for the Philippines!

Just for reference, I will be out in the Philippines for approximately four weeks visiting family. The great thing about traveling to places where you know family and/or friends typically means free room and board during the majority of our trip. However, we will be engaging in a variety of activities outdoors or around and about the islands that will require me to have access to a few different varieties of clothing. Some days we will be lounging on beaches at a resort in Boracay and other days we be hiking through the rain forests of Rizal. So, without further ado, here is what is in my carry-on bag: “hot weather edition”.

For tops, I decided to mix and match. As you will see with both tops and bottoms, I wanted a variety of bright colored pieces, as well, as neutral pieces. This way I can easily make a variety of parings with similar items. I decided on going with two pretty statement tops (coral and yellow). Both of these tops are great because they express my fun colorful personality and style, however, I could easily dress them up or down depending on what set of bottoms I decide to pair them with.

The other shirts I went with are a bit more neutral in their color and/or style. I have two other color tank tops (purple and blue) and then I have three cropped shirts (white and black). The great thing about these shirts is that I will be easily able to pair them with both bold colored/patterned bottoms or simple bottoms. All these tops and shorts (pictured below) I purchased from Target! Some items are from this season and some are from about a year back. Gotta love their fun summer options.

With bottoms, I went for comfy, flowy, colorful vibes. I will be sporting my favorite flowy blue pants, as well as, three different long skirts (orange floral, polka dots, and blue) [not pictured]. I also will have four pairs of shorts in my arsenal. Here you see I have a few plain colored shorts (color, yellow, blue jean) and well as a simple black and white striped pair.

Also, my favorite item of all, these adorable blue jean overalls. I am ridiculously excited to sport these this summer.

As much as I’m a lover of all things colorful, as I have already expressed, for years I have been a one black swimsuit only kind of gal. However, now with us moving out to Florida AND going on our big tropical vacation, I decided to branch out for once. While I’m still keeping my trusty black tankini in the mix, I purchased these two additional fun prints. Pictured on the left is an adorable ruched top with lemons and stripes. In the middle, is on of my favorite pattern combos: floral and stripes. I managed to snag these two patterned swimsuits from  and I am absolutely in love with them. I purchased my black swimsuit from Target a couple years ago.

Work Out.

I want to try to stay active even while we are on vacation. In addition to some naturally active activities (e.g., sightseeing, hiking, etc.) we will be doing around the islands, I am also hoping to get the chance to go to the gym regularly to keep in a good routine. I’ll be packing two sets of workout leggings and two workout tops. The black leggings and workout shirt are courtesy of Target (again). These adorable purple leggings and blue workout top are from Fabletics.

I wanted to make sure that I had an appropriate pair of shoes for any and all types of activities that might pop up during our trip. I packed a nicer pair of sandals and a pair of closed toed flats. These can be used for both casual and dressier events. I also packed a pair of flip-flops for the beach and pool. I packed my gym shoes for indoor workouts, as well as, I purchased myself a set of hiking boots for our hiking trip on more rigorous terrains.

Packing for the Philippines: Mix and Match Up

As pictured above, I paired the same fun bright blue skirt with a variety of shirts giving me four different outfit options with one skirt alone! Pictured skirt is from Primark UK.

Other Fun Options

I’m super excited to start mixing and matching all my fun pieces around and about the Philippines! 🙂 Don’t forget your accessories!

What am I missing?

I have covered the basics of what clothing will be in my carry on bag for my upcoming trip to the Philippines! I think the most important thing to keep in mind when packing is to pick a variety of items that are easy to mix and match. This way you can create many outfits with a limited amount of items. This is my first time trying to limit the total amount of clothing I’m taking on a trip. I probably could have limited myself even more but… baby steps! 🙂

Have any of you guys ever traveled to the Philippines or another location with a similarly hot and humid climate? What are your absolute essential must have clothing items to beat the heat? Let me know in the comments below if you think there is something else I should considering taking! 🙂

Hey, great post. Going somewhere hot really helps you fit more into your carry on baggage hey :). It looks like you’ll have enough for your trip and being with family and friends means you’ll get to keep up with your washing so you don’t need as much to take with you. Very handy lol! Making sure each item is able to be matched with your other items is certainly a brilliant idea. Have fun on your holiday catching up with family and friends!

Very true! It’s nice that hot weather does not take up as much space as cold weather clothing does! haha. I remember once I had double trips back to back where I had to pack for both climates at one time and let’s just say… I went a bit crazy with the packing. 😀 Thanks for visiting!

Great read. I travel a bit in that area a lot – not quite the Philippines but Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Travel light as anything you need you can buy pretty cheaply when you are there. I have the rule of 3! 3 of anything is enough. Basically, one wearing, one washing and one drying! Or Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow…

You are going to love it, Its more fun in the Philippines!.
